During the past 2 years I have had my head down and tail up studying a diploma in Textiles, Clothing and Footwear. I was not only studying, being a mum and wife but also preparing fabric, designing and creating whimsical wonderings to exhibit at the The Teddy Bear Invitational 2006, Binghamton NY, USA. This was my first time oversea's! I loved the experience, especially meeting bear people who I'd only ever spoken to over the internet. I was fortunate enough to meet lots of new friends! I hope to visit again in the future.
2006 has been a big year for me. It has marked my 10 year anniversary of creating bears, Robin Ruinsky wrote a beautiful article on my work which was published in the August edition of US Teddy Bear & Friends magazine and my Mum travelled to America with me. The most difficult part has been the loss of my Grandmother. A few months after my return from the States my gorgeous and inspiring Nan passed away.
I plan on completing my studies this year. My son starts school and I hope to have a little more time to work on my whimsical wonderings.
I haven't forgotten my promise of donating "Flutterby-phant, Why Not?" to Madonna House, an organization that helps women and their children out of an abusive home (I just have to finish it!) I hope to continue sharing my experience with you and please feel free to write!
Warm Hugs,
Jo Duckworth
